Indications
Damp-phlegm pattern: Spleen loses transformation, damp gathers into phlegm that flavors every symptom — the cough, the fullness, the nausea, the muddled head. Treating the Spleen and drying the damp treats the phlegm at its source.
Clinical Manifestations
- Cough with copious white sputum
- Chest and epigastric stuffiness
- Nausea and vomiting of phlegm-damp
- Dizziness and palpitations from phlegm-fluids

- Cold phlegm — add Gan Jiang 干姜, Xi Xin 细辛
- Heat phlegm — exchange for cooling transformers such as Zhu Ru 竹茹, Gua Lou 瓜蒌
- Wind phlegm with dizziness — add Tian Ma 天麻, Bai Zhu 白术 — Ban Xia Bai Zhu Tian Ma Tang direction
Contraindications
Acrid and drying: unsuitable for yin-deficiency dry cough and for phlegm with blood streaking.
