Indications
Liver constraint transforming into heat with blood deficiency and Spleen weakness: the Xiao Yao San pattern plus heat — red tongue edges, irritability, a wiry rapid pulse, menses arriving early.
Clinical Manifestations
- Irritability, flushed cheeks, dry mouth of constraint-heat
- Early or heavy menstruation
- Distending breast and flank pain with heat signs
- Perimenopausal heat and mood swings

- Pronounced heat in the blood — increase Mu Dan Pi 牡丹皮; add Sheng Di Huang 生地黄

Contraindications
Cooler than its parent: not for the plain cold-tending Xiao Yao San pattern without heat signs, nor for yin-deficiency fire without modification.
