Common adjustments
- Consciousness clearly clouded — give with An Gong Niu Huang Wan 安宫牛黄丸, Zi Xue Dan 紫雪丹 or Zhi Bao Dan 至宝丹
- Phlegm obstructing the orifices — add Shi Chang Pu 石菖蒲 and Yu Jin 郁金
Contraindications
Not for clouded consciousness from phlegm-damp or from yang collapse, both of which look superficially similar and need the opposite treatment. Not for cold patterns.
For licensed practitioners’ reference only — not a self-treatment guide.
Pregnancy
Contraindicated in pregnancy other than as emergency care directed by a practitioner — the formula is very cold and is used only for severe heat closing on the Pericardium.
