Sheng Yu Tang圣愈汤
Sage-Like Healing Decoction
Ingredients6 herbs
Indications
Qi and blood deficiency with the qi failing to contain the blood. Both substances are short, and the shortage of qi is what allows the blood to escape.
Clinical Manifestations
- Early periods with heavy pale flow
- Fatigue and breathlessness alongside blood deficiency
- Slow recovery after significant blood loss
- Pale complexion with palpitations and dizziness
Health Categories
Modern Applications
Common adjustments
- Bleeding heavy and ongoing — add charred stanching herbs and consider Ju Yuan Jian 举元煎 instead
- Poor appetite and loose stool — add Bai Zhu 白术 and Fu Ling 茯苓
- Insomnia and palpitations prominent — add Suan Zao Ren 酸枣仁 and Long Yan Rou 龙眼肉
Contraindications
Not for heavy bleeding caused by heat in the blood or by stasis, and not while damp or food stagnation is obstructing the middle — the rich sweet herbs would make that worse.
For licensed practitioners’ reference only — not a self-treatment guide.
Pregnancy
Generally compatible in pregnancy where qi and blood deficiency is clear — Chuan Xiong is kept to a modest dose because it moves blood. The treating practitioner decides.
