Contraindications
is the toxic constituent and governs the cautions. Only processed is used; unprocessed aconite root contains aconitine and related alkaloids, which cause numbness of the mouth and limbs, nausea, and cardiac arrhythmia that can be fatal, and poisonings continue to occur from wrongly prepared or over-dosed material. It must be decocted first and long, never taken raw or as a powder scaled up, and it is contraindicated in pregnancy. also carries a incompatibility: aconite material must not be combined with Ban Xia, Gua Lou,, Bai Lian or. Yi Yi Ren in large dose is traditionally avoided in pregnancy, and Bai Jiang Cao is cold and may loosen the stool. The formula is not for the early hot stage of with high fever and a rigid abdomen — that pattern is drained downward instead. The clinical limit is decisive: appendicitis, appendiceal abscess and any intra-abdominal collection are surgical emergencies. Increasing pain, a board-like abdomen, rebound tenderness, vomiting, high fever with rigors, or a rapid pulse with low blood pressure means perforation or sepsis and immediate hospital care. This entry documents the classical treatment of a pattern; the modern management of an abscess is imaging, antibiotics and drainage.
