Yin Er银耳

Tremella · Tremella · White Wood Ear Fungus

Herbs that Tonify the Yin 补阴药

Overview

Silver ear fungus, better known in kitchens than in dispensaries. Sweet, bland and neutral, it nourishes yin and moistens the Lung gently enough for long use, and it is usually simmered into a soup rather than decocted with other herbs. It suits dry cough and a dry mouth left behind after a febrile illness, or the quiet dryness of chronic depletion.

Contraindications

Cautions

Moistening and slightly cloying: not for a new wind-cold cough with copious clear phlegm, nor for phlegm-damp with a thick greasy tongue coating. Prepare it fresh — rehydrated fungus left standing, or product that has spoiled, has caused serious food poisoning and must be discarded rather than cooked.
