Indications
Liver and Kidney yin deficiency, mild in degree, sometimes with heat stirring the blood so it leaves the vessels.
Clinical Manifestations
- Dizziness, tinnitus and blurred vision from yin deficiency
- Heavy or prolonged periods with a red tongue
- Premature greying and hair loss
- Aching lower back and knees with dry eyes

- Yin deficiency more pronounced — combine with Liu Wei Di Huang Wan 六味地黄丸
- Bleeding prominent — add Sheng Di Huang 生地黄 and Ce Bai Ye 侧柏叶
- Insomnia with night sweats — add Suan Zao Ren 酸枣仁 and Mu Li 牡蛎
Contraindications
Not for Spleen yang deficiency with loose stool or cold in the abdomen — both herbs are cool and Mo Han Lian in particular can loosen the stool. Not for bleeding from cold or from qi deficiency.

Pregnancy
Generally compatible in pregnancy — a mild cooling yin tonic with no harsh herbs. Use under the guidance of the treating practitioner, and avoid if there is loose stool.
