Stabilize the Menses Pill

Indications
Flooding and leaking from yin deficiency with blood heat: yin no longer restrains fire, the fire agitates the blood and drives it out of the vessels. The blood is deep red or purplish and sticky rather than pale and watery.

- Flooding and leaking from yin-deficient heat
- Bleeding between periods
- Heat in the palms and soles with menstrual irregularity
- Persistent spotting with a red tongue

Modern Applications
Common adjustments
- Heat pronounced with thirst and restlessness — add Sheng Di Huang 生地黄 and Di Gu Pi 地骨皮
- Bleeding heavy and needing to be stopped quickly — add charred stanching herbs such as Di Yu 地榆 or Ce Bai Ye 侧柏叶
- Kidney yin markedly depleted — add Nv Zhen Zi 女贞子 and Mo Han Lian 墨旱莲
Contraindications
Not for bleeding from qi deficiency or from cold — pale watery flow with exhaustion and a faint pulse needs warming and tonifying, and this formula's bitter cold herbs will deepen that pattern. Also unsuitable while damp-heat or stasis is the dominant problem. Any abnormal uterine bleeding requires a medical diagnosis.
For licensed practitioners’ reference only — not a self-treatment guide.
Pregnancy
Not for use in pregnancy — Gui Ban is traditionally avoided during pregnancy and the bitter cold herbs are unsuitable; bleeding in pregnancy needs urgent obstetric assessment.
