Indications
Heat blazing in both qi and blood levelswith macules emerging: the qi level is still full of fire while the blood level is already being scorched, so the two must be cleared in one formula.
Clinical Manifestations
- Warm disease with macules appearing while high fever continues
- Red macules with intense thirst and profuse sweat
- Febrile rash with a crimson tongue and a flooding pulse
- Toxic eruptive fevers where heat spans qi and blood

- Macules dark and dense — add Zi Cao 紫草 and Mu Dan Pi 牡丹皮
- Fluids badly depleted — add Mai Men Dong 麦门冬 and Sheng Di Huang 生地黄
- Consciousness clouding — add an orifice-opening preparation
Contraindications
Not for rashes of exterior wind-heat that have nothing to do with blood-level heat, and not for pale macules of deficiency. Very cold — unsuitable for Spleen and Stomach deficiency cold.

Pregnancy
Contraindicated in pregnancy other than under practitioner supervision for a severe eruptive fever — the formula is extremely cold and combines two strong clearing strategies.
