Modern Applications

Common adjustments

  • Deep coma — give with An Gong Niu Huang Wan 安宫牛黄丸 or Zi Xue Dan 紫雪丹
  • Bleeding prominent — combine with the Xi Jiao Di Huang Tang decoction

Contraindications

Not for febrile illness still at the exterior or qi level, and not for deficiency-cold patterns. The classical formula lists Jin Zhi, a historical preparation that modern practice omits entirely.

For licensed practitioners’ reference only — not a self-treatment guide.

Pregnancy

Contraindicated in pregnancy — an intensely cold, toxin-resolving emergency preparation; any use would be a practitioner-directed decision in severe illness.
