Wu Lin San五淋散
Five-Ingredient Powder for Painful Urinary Dribbling
Ingredients5 herbs
Indications
Damp-heat pouring into the lower burner and entering the blood level: heat forces blood out of the vessels of the bladder while damp obstructs the flow of urine, so bleeding and painful dribbling appear together.
Clinical Manifestations
- Bloody painful urinary dribbling
- Burning scanty urination with urgency
- Urine dark like bean broth
- Gritty or stone-related urinary pain
- Recurrent damp-heat in the bladder with no constipation

Common adjustments
- Bleeding is heavy — add Xiao Ji, or Bai Mao Gen 白茅根 and Ou Jie 藕节
- Stones are present — add Jin Qian Cao 金钱草 and Hai Jin Sha 海金沙
- Heat is severe with fever — add Huang Bai 黄柏 and Pu Gong Ying 蒲公英
- Dribbling is very obstructed — add Che Qian Zi 车前子 and Hua Shi 滑石
Contraindications
For excess damp-heat only. Chronic dribbling from Spleen or Kidney deficiency, with a pale tongue and a frail pulse, needs tonification instead. Blood in the urine must always be investigated medically — infection, stones and tumour all present this way, and none should be treated as a pattern alone.
For licensed practitioners’ reference only — not a self-treatment guide.
Pregnancy
Use with caution in pregnancy — it is cold and blood-moving, and urinary symptoms in pregnancy need medical assessment because untreated infection carries real risk. Only on a practitioner's prescription.
