Indications

Opens and reaches the membrane sourceDiffuses damp and transforms phlegmFrees the ascending and descending of qi

Phlegm-damp obstructing the membrane source. The pathogen is the same lodged, half-in half-out kind that Da Yuan Yin addresses, but the dominant quality is turbid phlegm-damp blocking the qi dynamic rather than pestilential heat consuming fluids.

Contraindications

Not for febrile illness with a dry, peeled or coatless tongue, and not once heat has entered the nutritive or blood level. The aromatic, drying and qi-moving herbs consume fluids, so avoid where yin is already damaged.

For licensed practitioners’ reference only — not a self-treatment guide.

Pregnancy

Use with caution in pregnancy — Bing Lang, Qing Pi and Zhi Ke break qi strongly downward. Prescribe only under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.
