Contraindications

The formula is drying and aromatic throughout. It is wrong for damp-heat with a yellow greasy coating, for vomiting from Stomach yin deficiency with a red peeled tongue, and for thirst with scanty dark urine from heat.

For licensed practitioners’ reference only — not a self-treatment guide.

Pregnancy

Use with caution in pregnancy — the formula is strongly drying and aromatic, and Ban Xia is traditionally used in pregnancy only under close supervision. Prescribe only on a practitioner's assessment.
